Our Mission

The mission of the Foundation is to promote and advance education, career development and leadership in finance and accounting, with the goal of guiding women to achieve success in their careers. We believe that to decrease barriers for women in the accounting and financial profession, education and access to career development resources are essential. The Foundation aims to ensure women will have the tools and resources to achieve every career success they desire.

Our Programs

The Foundation programs promote and advance financial literacy, scholarship and life skills through programs of recognition, mentoring, research and outreach.

They Include:

Educational Advancement Programs:The Foundation, through their educational advancement initiative, is seeking to partner with dynamic organizations and members to increase awareness and provide resources for women in the community to strengthen their skillset in various areas including: networking, leadership, entrepreneurship, finance management, and career and personal development.

Academic Scholarships

The AFWA Educational Foundation undergraduate and master’s scholarships that are to be awarded in the Spring, for students to apply towards tuition for the 2014-15 academic year are as follows:

  • Undergraduate Accounting & Finance Major Scholarships (4- or 5-year programs) to support the costs of students attending 3rd, 4th or 5th year towards an accounting or finance degree.

  • Master’s Accounting & Finance Degree Scholarships to support the costs of attending an accredited College or University enrolled in a master’s program, and is pursuing an accounting or finance degree.

AFWA Member Scholarships Additional scholarship opportunities are available to AFWA members to pursue professional certifications and PhD degrees. You must be a member to qualify for these scholarships.

  • Certification - To support the exam fees for any one of the following certifications: CPA, CFP, CFE, CIA, CMA, CVA or CGFM.

  • CPA Review - To provide registration for a CPA Review Course as available.

  • PhD Scholarship - To cover the cost of research for a student seeking a PhD degree in Accounting.

These applications are available on the National AFWA website or by contacting our chapter scholarship director. Members should submit applications directly to foundation@aswa.org. The chapter does not sponsor the applicant.
